Lansdowne Drive and Westgate Street School Street & Bus Gate get the go-ahead

Between 5 December 2017 and 12 January 2018, local residents, businesses and schools were consulted on the proposals and a majority were in favour of the proposals. You can view the approved Delegated Powers Report which gives full details on the scheme and consultation at https://consultation.hackney.gov.uk/streetscene/lansdowne-drive-and...

Plans to implement the improvement works have now been approved with the changes to come into effect on Wednesday 6 June 2018.

The changes include the following:

  • Westgate Street outside London Fields Primary School will become a pedestrian, cycle and local buses only zone between 8.30am-9.15am and 3.15pm-4.00pm Monday – Friday during school term-time.
  • A bus gate will be installed at the junction of Lansdowne Drive and Trederwen Road which will only allow local buses, pedestrians and cyclists through between 7am-10am and 3pm-7pm Monday to Saturday.
  • There will be no left turn into Richmond Road from Mare Street at 7am-10 am and 3pm-7pm Monday to Saturday.

Enforcement:

  • The scheme is enforced by camera.
  • If you drive into the School Street zone, through the bus gate or turn left onto Richmond Road from Mare Street during the operating hours you can be fined £65 (rising to £130 if not paid early).

Further details and a map of the changes are included in the attached works notification, and further updates will be provided https://www.hackney.gov.uk/london-fields-streets

This will be Hackney’s fifth School Street, which aim to create a safer, more pleasant environment for everyone whilst maintaining access for residents, businesses, pedestrians and cyclists. The schools asked to be included in the scheme because of significant issues they are facing with safety and antisocial driver behaviour.
