Transform: Edible East - Funding available to transform derelict land into food growing spaces

Groundwork London, London Sustainability Exchange (LSx), and the London Wildlife Trust have received funding from the City Bridge Trust, Defra, SITA Trust, and the Big Lottery Fund's Local Food Programme to transform 70 areas of derelict land in the Olympic host boroughs (Barking & Dagenham, Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest) and to encourage people to live more sustainably. The project, Transform, aims to secure lasting social and environmental benefits as a legacy of the Games. Transform allows Groundwork London to give time and materials to support local community groups transform their rundown and under-used green and open spaces into thriving community resources. 50 sites have already been supported, and the deadline for the next round of applications is 8th February 2012, then 12th April and 12th July.
