Campaigners reveal vision for wild swimming in Waltham Forest

Posted on November 27, 2019 at 13:30 0 Comments

Save Lea Marshes and CPRE have joined forces to campaign to transform the historic filter beds on Lea Bridge Road, once used by Thames Water, into a place for wild swimming.

The campaign is calling for the site, which is Metropolitan Open Land, to be returned to the people of East London as a place for wild swimming and for it to be rewilded, with the built environment reclaimed by nature in some places and landscaping and planting in others.…

Five lessons from 5 years of Hackney Fixers

Posted on December 6, 2018 at 14:00 0 Comments

When the Restart Project inspired us to hold our first Restart Party five years ago we thought it was a fun way to DO something practical to help the environment.

5 years, 33 events and 881 devices later it is still that.  Indeed we are still having fun and we’ve prevented 16 tonnes of CO2 emissions according to the Restart Project’s Fixometer.

As I munched…

Today is the day, five long years ago, that we held our first Restart Party at Passing Clouds. We were so nervous when we opened up, we didn’t know if anyone would come!

Just found these old photos https://sustainablehackney.org.uk/photo/albums/restart-party-thanks-to-kate-and-hth-foe …

Apparently the battery of the old laptop that Dave once cleaned out for me is "weak" and I should buy a new one - but neither the HP parts shop nor its list of UK parts resellers seems able to help.

If Hackney Fixers knows of suppliers and sources for electronic spares, could those possibly be listed on its mini-website? (I can't find any comment wall there....)

Thanks!

If you have time to meet outside/ before the next meeting, or maybe after it at the Curve Garden again. That would be good. Thanks again.

Hi James.

This website needs updating.

I'm sure that we can find a volunteer to help.

I'm not sure why 2/6 of The Main Headings on the Google search for Sustainable hackney come up with The Tree Nursery and The Hackney Marshes Groups.

I'm not sure why our Chair - Russell Miller was talking about them both at his speech at the AGM ? How are they relevant to an overview of Sustainability in Hackney? I would like to add this to the Agenda for the next meeting. Thanks. Lucy

Hi James,

I'm still learning about social media, I can come & help with Sustainable Hackney, a little time, on a regular basis. It would be a pleasure.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi James,
Sorry to be so technically challenged, but I've created 12 Events on Face Book for my Kids Summer Programme at The Hackney Tree Nursery & Edible Forest Garden, but am having trouble linking them to Event Brite for ticket sales.
Do you know any one who can spare a few hours, now & then to help me with such things (paid).
Thanks again.

Noticed that the monthly Steering Group meeting is this week and thought I'd asked Kathryn to confirm my vague recollection that it's open to (presumably silent) attendance by non-members of the group - but no reply. Can I sit in or do you like to discuss things in isolation?

PS Can't ask you in real time because the chat box isn't offering me anything to type into at present...???

Our office is based in Hackney, but the Puppet Barge is moored in Little Venice and travels to Richmond during the summer... Thanks for asking!
