The London Community Credit Union is putting on an ‘Open Day’ event in their Hackney branch on Sat 6th Oct, joint with the Move Your Money campaign.

There will be tea and cakes, speakers from 12.00 -13.00 talking about Credit Unions and ** £10 into every new account opened on the day ** (ID required). More information here and on Facebook.

It’s an opportunity to find out more about a really exciting organisation at a time of great change and potential, and we really hope you can join us there!

Credit Unions are local not-for-profit financial cooperatives. They are at the forefront of the fight against financial exclusion, actively support the local community and are a growing alternative to the big banks. London Community Credit Union has been running for 10 years, and has around 14,000 members. Anybody living, working or studying in Tower Hamlets, Hackney, City of London, Islington, Haringey, Waltham Forest or Newham can become a member and open an account. Proof of address and a piece of ID required.

Move Your Money UK is a national campaign to encourage people to move their money from the big 5 banks into the growing network of Ethical Banks, Building Societies and Credit Unions, in order to build a better banking sector. Since January 2012 MYM estimates that half a million people have moved to ‘better banks’, including 50,000 joining the Credit Union network, taking membership to over one million.
