Is anyone else bothered by the fact that the corner of Hackney Marshes has effectively been turned into a race track for petrol driven remote control cars? I live in the building just across the…Continue

Great news.... after a year of campaigning...

Hi all, this week will be laying around 10 tonne of sand on to the area, we also have a delivery of logs from one of our tree contractors coming later in the week. We will also be erecting signage explaining why we are preventing the use of R/C cars.

It's pretty much every workday evening that isn't raining and all day /evening from around midday every weekend day.As there are now dozens of racers from all over London you will need to come repeatedly and the racers can be threatening and numerous.
Will you be adding signage? The signs prohibiting golf for example are clear and seem to be effective
Will you put obstructions on the course? The flimsy fences were taken away by racers but tree trunks etc could be effective if large enough
Can you lay down sand over the track to cover and protect the exposed tree roots and also make the surface unappealing to cars?

If you can tell us what days of the week and times of day, I'm guessing parks staff can get someone out there to approach the racers.

Subject: Re: Noise complaint - petrol driven remote control cars back on the marsh again.
Noise levels peaked at over 100db today with more racers and more cars than ever before. Now that most council officers are back from their holidays can something be finally done before the problem gets any worse?
I would appreciate a response with an action plan covering signage, enforcement and measures to make the unofficial track unusable for that purpose.
All the best, Damian Rafferty
PS - the table below illustrates what the sound levels are comparable to.
110 dBA Siren *) at 10 m distance, frequent sound level in discotheques and close
to loudspeakers at rock concerts, violin close to the ear of an orchestra
musicians (maximum level)
105 dBA Chain saw at 1 m distance, banging car door at 1 m distance (maximum level),
racing car at 40 m distance, possible level with music head phones

Further to my last mail I have just spoken to some of the people racing these very loud petrol driven remote control cars on the Marsh and they all maintain that there is a network of racers using sites like http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/topic/172892-save-rc-on-hackney-marshes/ to organise meetings and races. Most of them maintain they had no idea it was banned and all point to the lack of signage. Reading the post in the link reinforces this.
One guy I spoke to came all the way from Ealing, another Teddington as this is seen as the 'only' racetrack in London. The gentleman from Ealing said he would send round his mates to my flat if we called the police to complain about the noise when I explained there was nothing else we could do if he carried on regardless.
I understand most of you may be on holiday but I would be grateful if the positioning of permanent signs was expedited and some effort expended to find a suitable place for people to exercise their hobby. This is not a few local people having a harmless hobby. Hackney Marshes is the premier - if unofficial venue - in London for very big and loud remote control races. We have the right to reasonable peace and quiet in our homes and I urge
