At Arcola, we’ve installed our first heating system in our theatre, based around a wood-burning boiler, the brilliantly named Therminator II. A wood-fired heating system is more environmentally friendly than gas or electric heating because it uses renewably sourced fuel. This helps us work towards becoming the world’s first carbon neutral theatre.
We’d like your help to keep warm this winter. If you’re able to bring in some wood*, we’ll reward you with a voucher for a one-off 50% discount on selected drinks in our café-bar. Please bring any armfuls of wood to the box office or bar, from Monday to Friday between 12.30 and 6pm. Ask for the Green Arcola team, who’ll assess the wood* and give you a voucher. If you’d like to check out the boiler when you come in, we’d be pleased to show you round.
If you know of larger quantities of waste wood in the area or have any contacts with people who work with wood, then please let us know: energy@arcolatheatre.com
* The boiler burns clean dry untreated wood. We can’t use MDF, chipboard, plywood, painted or varnished wood.
