Livesey Exchange, a new community venue on Old Kent Road, SE15 1NF.
1290m2 of vacant garages on the Ledbury Estate will be transformed into spaces for making, training and cultural programmes with a central courtyard surrounded by workshops, studios, multifunctional spaces and a training kitchen.
Named after the great Victorian industrialist George Livesey – who set up a quasi-cooperative energy company, the South London Gasworks, off the Old Kent Road – the Livesey Exchange aims at bringing life, new skills and jobs to a neglected corner of South East London.
Proposals for the Livesey Exchange have been developed by local residents Nicholas Okwulu of social enterprise Pempeople and architect Ulrike Steven of what if: projects. GLA, Southwark Council, Southwark Tenant Fund, Airbnb and many local residents and businesses have helped to shape the project and supported the crowdfunding.
