Over the last couple of decades flying has become a normal part of the western way of life. Taking to the air is surely one of man’s most impressive feats. A whole generation has grown up with the phenomena of ‘cheap’ flights and it’s almost considered to be our ‘right’ to be able to fly here, there and everywhere at the drop of a hat. But whilst teetering on the brink of catastrophic climate change and peak oil, is this a luxury that can be sustained? Do the benefits of seeing the world and experiencing other cultures balance out the damage to the biosphere? With no alternatives to oil currently in sight, will flying even be possible in the future?
This is an emotive issue, the elephant in the room if you like. But one that needs to be discussed along with everything else as we transition to a sustainable and fair future. We’ll strive for this to be a supportive space for sharing and listening, not a place to be judged on whether you do or don’t fly! We’re all on the same journey...
Join us for a night of presentations, supportive discussion and inspiring tales from those who’ve travelled by alternative means.
7-8: Bring a dish to share from (so you don’t need to rush home to cook first)
8-10: Presentations from Plane Stupid and Grow Heathrow followed by general discussion and heart-pouring!
