Have you been wanting to improve your gardening skills? We are now offering the Science and Practice of Successful Vegetable Gardening as an intensive weekend course, to give you all of the skills you need to grow vegetables successfully. Whether you already do a bit of gardening or are a complete novice this course will give you the theory, practical skills and confidence to garden successfully, whether your aim is to garden in a small windowbox or a large allotment.
Each day can be done individually, or as part of the course.
The course will cover the following:
Day 1- Basics of Gardening – the biology of plants, how it relates to our care for them, best practice seed sowing, transplanting and cutting techniques, Proper tool use, Soil Restoration and Preparation
Day 2 – Soil testing, Basic Surveying skills, Maintenance – watering, weeding and feeding plants, Planning a Garden Space
Course Tutor:
Simon White has been managing and teaching sustainable growing techniques, permaculture and solar in both the UK and Africa for the last five years, and has run ecological food production programmes at several small farms and city farms. He likes to make organic fertiliser, grow mushrooms, build solar panels and experiment with different sustainable food techniques, as well as growing as much fruit and vegetables as possible.
Fees:
£50 whole course
£30 one day
Fees include tuition, refreshments, handouts, information sheets and email advice. Please bring your own lunch, have a delicious meal in our cafe
