There are just a few weeks to go until the March Against Racism in London on Saturday 19 March, marking UN Anti-Racism Day.  Let’s get behind it.  

Almost as constant as the raw sewage flowing into our rivers have been incessant reports showing the systemic racism and bigotry embedded in the institutions of the state and wider society, the recent revelations by the IOPC into Charing Cross police being the tipping point that eventually forced Cressida Dick to resign. Priti Patel’s 'shock' at these vile  accounts of racism is disingenuous.  The PM's own racist and islamaphobic repertoire is infamous and as Home Secretary she has ratcheted up ‘hostile environment’ policies with fatal consequences. She has added to her armoury a Nationality and Borders bill that criminalises seeking asylum and equips our Police with powers that will enhance their discriminatory stop and search powers.

We need to support this demonstration; racism is not only wrong in itself but will be used increasingly as an instrument to weaken the unity needed to fight policies that lead to the social, environmental, climate and ecological crisis.

Refugees, if they get here alive are often escaping the consequences of environmental and climate breakdown and should not criminalised with racist laws.  Here, the campaigns we support against the Edmonton incinerator, Silvertown Tunnel and the growing energy crisis while environmental in nature also show environmental racism at work by impacting most on the poorest , working class and black and ethnic minority communities.
