London has a long and distinguished history in pioneering large infrastructure projects and advancing research that together have enhanced urban resilience and enabled growth. In Victorian times, Sir Joseph Bazalgette and Sir John Snow led the world with the construction of the most extensive underground sewer network and the foundation of the science of epidemiology, respectively. Today, global corporations and local communities alike are playing a similar role by investing in new technology and enhancing our “natural” infrastructure. This photo exhibition is a snapshot of urban life in a 21st century global city in support of the 1st International Conference on Urban Sustainability and Resilience at University College London.

Colin Cafferty is an emerging environmental photographer based in Hackney, East London interested in engaging the public on energy, sustainability and environmental issues through creative means.
