Event Description

Led by Russell Miller

Spend a Sunday afternoon among the autumn colour down the west edge of the marsh in the company of an outstanding local guide. A lot of this woodland was planted by HMUG volunteers 15-20 years ago and is now a Site of Interest for Nature Conservation: we'll look at how this young woodland is developing.

Older by many decades, magnificent grey & black poplars, the marshes' distinctive tree, now aging (and sometimes collapsing) veterans hosting dramatic hollows and fungi.

The new planting by the north pavilion designed to extend the woods: how successful is it?

What's that yew grove doing on the marsh? And who planted that crescent shaped little wood?

And what's eating this bark in Friends Wood?

What Russell doesn't know about our trees (and moths, and wild bees) can be written on the back of a SIM card (who can find a postage stamp these days?) And he's great at putting it over. Beginner or expert, you'll be fascinated.

Meet by the new north sports pavilion

Paid for by the Tree Musketeers with LBH funding - our thanks to both
