Sustainable Hackney is holding a follow-up to our first open meeting to discuss action to make the Declaration of a Climate Emergency meaningful.
The next Open Meeting is on Weds 18 September, 7-9pm, at the Rhodes Estate Community Centre, off Dalston Lane, when we examine the draft document asking 'What comes next? What do we want, and When do we want it??'
Looking ahead, the Council is convening a Climate Emergency Citizens Assembly on Sunday 17 November. That's four months away. We need a plan now, and some things need doing right away...
In the first session we looked at what's in the council's Emergency Declaration?, what more must the council do? and debated Real Divestment, Airport expansion (including City Airport), school curriculum, a Just Transition to a zero carbon world, generate clean/renewable energy in the borough, energy efficient/affordable homes, clean/sustainable travel, air quality, plastics, safe streets...What ideas, demands, actions do you have and how can we all reduce the carbon footprint of our consumption?
Back together on Wednesday 18 September … we will check our draft document and continue work on our demands.
