Event Description

Deep geothermal exploration is undergoing significant development in the UK. The drilling of a 995m-deep borehole into the Weardale Granite in County Durham has sparked a new phase of exploration, which looks set to launch a new industry focused on the delivery of renewable heat networks, electricity generation, as well as directional drilling and reservoir stimulation.

This lecture considers the significant interest in the possible geothermal exploitation of hot brines, which are co-produced with hydrocarbons in existing oilfields.
