Please join us for a litter pick along the River Lea!
As part of the Marine conservation charity Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) annual Autumn Beach and River Clean, Plastic-Free Hackney will be holding its own litter pick.
Our very own River Lea feeds directly into the Thames and out to sea meaning that bottle thrown away here in Hackney could be playing its part in the global plastics crisis, causing harm to local and marine ecosystems.
We will provide all equipment needed but please dress appropriately for the conditions and the weather! You might also want to bring a (reusable!) bottle of water - its thirsty work!
We will be meeting outside the Princess of Wales pub, Lea Bridge Road. From here you can collect a litter picker and rubbish bags and make your way either north towards Springfield Park or South towards Mabley Green. There will be drop off points at either end or midway for you to leave collected refuse and return the equipment. You can join at any point throughout the event but please make sure that you have deposited all collected rubbish and equipment at the designated points by
If you wish to join in a small boat and collect rubbish from in the water the Plastic Pirates will be setting sail from the Princess of Wales at
