Non-alignment sounds virtuous but doesn't create any leverage with any party.

Surely actively supporting a party whose policies actively embody what SH stands for would be more effective. Not only might it enable that party to gain seats on the Council and work actively to put those policies into practice but it would force the other local parties to campaign actively for SH's support - which they don't currently need to do.

My personal view - in the current state of capitalist political hegemony (aka insanity), although political change is fundamentally required as matter of urgency, the system of permanent government (to which we are subjected) is specifically designed to prevent any meaningful change. Achieving that change will require more than hoping or trying to win an election which has been rigged in advance (e.g. by a massive pro-UKIP media campaign).
Actually, since it only took…tag:sustainablehackney.org.uk,2014-05-23:6446498:Comment:336642014-05-23T12:30:05.688ZDiana Weirhttps://sustainablehackney.org.uk/profile/DIANAWEIR

Is there any scope for creating a positive connection between SH and the local Green Party, whose policies have a lot in common with what SH is doing? They're short of financial resources - which is why I'd not realised that they even had candidates standing locally until this…
