Help register Haggerston Pool as a Community Asset

Haggerston Pool supporters are asked to help in registering Haggerston Pool as a Community Asset. The Save Haggerston Pool campaign want to do this first to establish the community's interest in the pool, and second it will help should we apply for grants to start work on the pool.

At least 21 signatures are needed to register Haggerson Pool as an 'asset of community value' - an important step on the road to saving Haggerston Pool - but the more signatures the better, to demonstrate support for the pool's re-openng.

What is the Community Right to Bid?
The Community Right to Bid is intended to help community groups to ‘pause’ the sale of buildings or land they care about. When a listed asset comes to be sold, a moratorium on the sale (of up to six months) may be invoked, providing local community groups with a better chance to bid if they wish.

The Community Right to Bid also allows communities and parish councils to nominate buildings or land for listing by the local authority as an asset of community value. An asset can be listed if its principal use furthers (or has recently furthered) their community’s social well-being or social interests (which include cultural, sporting or recreational interests) and is likely to do so in the future.

What else has been happening in the Haggerston Pool Campaign?
A group of people have volunteered to take part in a technical advisory group to see how the community could get involved in getting the pool re-opened. The council have shared their plans with the group, and gave a group of architects and surveyors limited access to look in the building. The group then drew up a draft agreement with the council so that there was some commitment to the work that community members were offering for free, and to enable them to apply for grants. Things have since got stalled. The group has written to the mayor and are hoping for a positive response!
