Resist Lea Valley Park land sell-off

We're very concerned about a threat to sell park land near the north edge of Hackney Marsh to build housing. Please, if you can, get a short email off to Waltham Forest council by the end of Tuesday 31st Jan.

All that's needed:

* address: leabridgeandleytonconsultation@walthamforest.gov.uk

* title: Lea Bridge Eastside Vision Consultation

* Ask the council to remove the…

"A city for all Londoners" - Mayor Khan, open up the debate!

Sustainable Hackney has responded to Mayor Sadiq Khan's 'extended manifesto', A City for all Londoners.  It outlines the direction for his review of the London Plan and his other strategies.  It is rich in ambition, but we have called for a rethink as the main concepts of "accommodating growth", "World City" and "good growth underpinning the document are…

Greener Hackney or a Green Light for Cars?

Anyone who has followed Save Lea Marshes in the last few years will be aware of our campaign against the planned cricket pavilion for Hackney Marshes, a design which involves building on green space in order to accommodate a large car park on North Marsh.

During our campaign, which led to a public inquiry, evidence was coming to light of the damaging effect of air pollution on Londoners, especially children. Exposure to air pollution stunts lung growth and even impairs children’s…

A useful report from Regeneris: Capital Spread: Mapping the GLA's regeneration spend 2008-2016.

Protest Against Illegal Car Wash Polluting Lea River

On Monday evening, members of Save Lea Marshes staged a pop-up protest against the car wash which is now operating, without planning permission, in the car park of Lee Valley Ice Centre.

Planning permission is yet to be granted by Waltham Forest Council and yet permanent structures have already been created for the car wash, which is now serving…

Don't forget to vote 5th May: who's the greenest candidate?

Don't forget to vote for your choice of London Mayor and GLA representatives on 5th May!

You've got three votes:

  • One for your first and second choice of mayor
  • Another for an assembly member to represent your local constituency (North-East London)
  • A third to choose one of the 11 assembly members who represent the whole city

There's an interesting analysis of the green policies of the main mayoral candidates from Friends of…

New consultation on Crossrail 2 - Dalston or Hackney Central, not both??

Transport for London is consulting again on Crossrail 2.  They now want to know if we'd prefer to have a Crossrail 2 station at Dalston or Hackney Central.  Apparently it will be cheaper than having stations at both.  The Homerton option has completely gone from the agenda.  Closes 25th July 2014.…

Have your say on Crossrail 2

TfL is consulting on two options for Crossrail 2, and the consultation closes on 2nd August.

While I agree Hackney needs a tube line it seems these proposals are more concerned with future central area tube congestion than the transport needs of Hackney; the Metro option will have only one station in…

Chelsea-Hackney line aka Crossrail 2

Proposals for the Chelsea-Hackney tube line, first mooted in the 1930's are back on the table once again.  A working group from business consortium London First, chaired by former transport secretary Lord Adonis, has published a report urging support for Crossrail 2 and favouring route option B below.  If the proposals win political and financial support it will be at least 2033 before the…

IDEAS: coming soon Self-Driving Cars as environmental allies

"the real potential of these cars is we have a transportation system that is much better on the environment because it allows more people to use vehicles in a very different way,"

"One of the big potentials is that it changes the urban landscape because you can have your car drive to where you are and pick you up, as opposed to needing to park your car within a mile of…
