Almost a million more people will have died prematurely along with countless others who will suffer ill-health by the time the Government's key measure in their new air quality plans comes into operation: the ban on all new petrol and diesel by 2040 and a commitment that "almost" every car and van on the road to be a zero emission vehicle by 2050.

Today People and Planet urge you all to use your vote next Thursday:
Next Friday, 9 June 2017, we will be waking up to a new government. Add your mark on what that government should look like. Vote on Thursday 8 June.

Hackney law firm Client Earth won a third court victory over the Govenment which has repeatedly delayed publication of it's Air Quality plans. The judge agreed with Client Earth that public health concerns overule the convention of purdah which the government tried to use to delay publishing the plans until after the general election. Now they must be published on 9th May after the local elections.…

Hackney Energy is up and running again. Government cuts to community solar schemes knocked us off track for a while. But we are going for an Energy Advice Shop in Hackney and for crowdfunding a solar scheme in the borough – just for starters. The Hackney Energy website, blog and tweets are ticking over, and we always welcome ideas for blogs or news items. But it was good to begin to share ideas for further HE campaigns in 2017.

Plans for a new incinerator at Edmonton got development consent from the government last week. The current incinerator will reach the end of it's useful life in 2025 and it's replacement is now apparently planned with even more capacity to take waste from other parts of London.
Paying for the capital costs of the new plant will put waste disposal costs in…

Late last year the RSPB published their State of Nature 2016 Report. It shows the UK's performance on biodiversity is abysmal. It shows the Government is simply failing to protect our ecosystems and the species that depend on them. In fact it is doing worse that 188 of the 218 countries…

The Restart Project report that the average mobile made this year will produce 35 kg of carbon emissions in manufacture, equivalent to 16 weeks of laundry. And with around 1.9 billion mobiles sold a year that's the same as Austria's emissions. They're asking us to make our phones last longer - even just 1/3 long could save the same as Singapore's annual emissions. Demand better design and…
