Does the council replace like for like when trees are blow down like some were today in the storm?

Not really, because trees which sustain damage are mostly older trees, which take many years to be replaced in terms of biomass. A lot of the material blown down on the Marsh in storms like yesterday's are major branches or top-most parts of mature trees which continue to survive for years after the event. I saw maybe 6 large trees down after yesterday - most were poplar & willow - plus mounds of branches and leaves in many areas where no whole trees had been uprooted. Spaces created where whole trees fall naturally regenerate with young trees already present in the understorey, though these replacements will not necessarily be of the same species as the lost tree.
