Sustainable Hackney has been holding a series of meetings to develop our response to the council's declaration of a climate emergency.
Our next steering group meeting is on Weds 30th October, 7-9pm, at the Rhodes Estate Community Centre, off Dalston Lane, when we finalise the draft document.
Looking ahead, the Council is convening a Climate Emergency Citizens Assembly on Saturday 16 November. That's only two weeks away.
In the first session we looked at what's in the council's Emergency Declaration, what more must the council do, and debated Real Divestment, Airport expansion (including City Airport), school curriculum, a Just Transition to a zero carbon world, generating clean/renewable energy in the borough, energy efficient/affordable homes, clean/sustainable travel, air quality, plastics, safe streets.
In September, and again at our AGM, we worked on the ideas in our draft document. This meeting will look at the final draft before it goes to the council.
ALL WELCOME!
