Event Description

HELP PLANT OUT AN 'EDIBLE ALLEYWAY' IN HACKNEY WICK--ALL WELCOME

Interested in organic gardening and edible plants? Here's your chance to roll up your sleeves and help plant out an Edible Alleyway at the Cre8 Lifestyle Centre in Hackney Wick. Sean Gifford from Groundwork will be on hand to lead a number of informal drop-in sessions:

Sunday 7th July, 12-5 pm

Monday 8th July, 6:30-8:30 pm

Wednesday 10th July, 6:30-8:30 pm

The alleyway will be planted out and maintained by the community--that's you!! Anyone can get involved from total beginners to permaculture experts.  During each session we will have a selection of edible plants that need planting out (think edible exotic ferns, bamboos, alpine strawberries, woodruff). While we have our hands in the soil, we can talk about the bigger plans for food growing on the site and think of other types of plants we could put into the alleyway.

If you are considering dropping by, please send a quick email to me at Sean.Gifford@groundwork.org.uk  or ring me on 07922 665 376 so I can contact you if there is a sudden change of plans.

Please visit our Google Drive folder where you can have a look at the 'concept document' for the alleyway where some of the vision is discussed. We want to hear what you think and take an active part in designing this lovely space. In the folder there is also schematic for the alleyway.

All sessions happen in the alleyway of  Cre8 Lifestyle Centre, 80 Eastway, Hackney Wick, E9 5JH. The alleyway is visible from the road, but please enter the building through the door to the left and make your way to the alleyway. There may be a small beer festival happening in the building at the same time, so if you have any problems finding us please ring Sean on 07922 665376.

ABOUT CRE8 ARC (housed in the Cre8 Lifestyle Centre)

The Cre8 Arc is London’s first eco hub and permaculture gardens, built using material from the Olympic Games. We aim to showcase a sustainable legacy of London 2012 and work with our community to self-build for our future. During the course of the project, we'll be constructing a community-lead eco building behind the Cre8 Lifestyle Centre as well as creating raised beds for 130 square meters of free organic veg growing space for the local community. We are thrilled that you want to be part of this journey; the success of this project is totally down to the volunteers who get involved and make it their own.

The site is being transformed as we speak, with the alleyway now completed and the land in main food growing space behind the centre being prepared for the raised beds. Over the next few months, there will be many opportunities to get some hands-on involvement in sustainable eco-building and organic gardening.
