Winter celebrations are supposed to help us get through the cold short days and long nights with lights, candles and simple family festivities.
Unfortunately, as we all know to our financial, emotional and environmental cost these festivities, especially Christmas, have morphed into commercialised events. They sap our energy and bank accounts as well as much of the earth's resources and pump volumes of extra CO2 into the atmosphere.
So it would be great if, as part of our aim to bring sustainability to Hackney Schools, we could act as role models for celebrating our festivities sustainably, without plastic and without using too many new and manufactured resources.
Instead, can we be innovative and use minmal natural resources, recycled items and make them ourselves with loving care?
Join us at St John and St James School bring along your ideas and examples if you can!
