Hackney residents are encouraged to submit photos of local projects in a competition to find London’s Picture of Sustainability. It’s your chance to champion the things that you are proud of in your area!  You could win a ‘year of holidays’ from Canopy & Stars.

Individuals and communities across each of the London boroughs are challenged to capture images of inspiring green projects in their area. Local examples could include the Shoreditch Swish, Rhodes Estate Gardening Group, Hackney City Farm or the Hackney Allotment Society.

Online social platform Caydoo (pronounced Kee-Doo) designed London’s Picture of Sustainability competition to encourage people to consider the meaning of sustainable living.

Submissions must be uploaded to the competition website with a short caption. A panel of experts will judge the entries on concept as well as skill. There will be two overall winners with prizes awarded to the entry with most public votes and the best shot as chosen by the judges.

The judging panel includes Magic FM DJ Neil Fox, the Guardian’s Jo Confino, Sustainability.com’s John Elkington, Canopy & Stars’ Tom Dixon, Freegle co-founder Cat Fletcher and Head of Photography at London Metropolitan University Mick Williamson.

Competition prizes include luxury UK glamping holidays, courtesy of Sawday’s Canopy & Stars, and Lush cosmetics hampers. The overall competition winner will receive a year of exclusive sustainable getaways, showcasing beautiful UK holiday destinations in spring, summer and autumn.

Magic FM DJ Neil Fox, competition ambassador and self-confessed ‘green-leaner’, believes the photo challenge will encourage exploration of London’s many sustainable initiatives. He said:

“Photographs capture the imagination and we hope the competition will do just that for London. It’s an exciting opportunity to showcase people’s different ideas of sustainability ahead of the Olympics.

“You don’t need to be a photographer to have a camera and an opinion. The idea is to provoke and capture people’s thoughts whatever their age, ability or lifestyle choices. It’s time to drive sustainability into the mainstream.”

The competition closes for entries on 22 July 2012. For full competition details visit http://www.apictureofsustainability.com.
