If you're not happy with the big banks check out Move your money.  Barclays, RBS and HSBC have all been in the media in recent days -  here are some alternatives.

That looks good. Anyone here had any experience of the LCCU? If I don't hear anything seriously bad about them I'd be inclined to put my current account there.

The Tower Hamlets credit union has expanded to include Hackney and has a branch in Mare Street.  It's now called London Community Credit Union http://londoncu.co.uk/

For savings I use Triodos. Human scale, competent and principles right up my alley. Their only not-well-in-the-black year was when the big banks crashed and a levy was imposed on all banks regardless of culpability, so they had to chip in. Triodos was otherwise unaffected by the crash as they only invest in the real world.

For current personal banking the problem is the unreliability of the co-op, where I've managed several organisational accounts at a great expense of time sorting out their errors. And they have stuck with charging unreasonably high while the others have reduced. I suppose I may finally get round to shifting, but with a slight groan as I anticipate months of following up my standing orders etc.

Maybe I should think about the credit union as well. It's got going again, no?
