Last trading day on Kingsland Waste market - Saturday March 28th

  • Patricia Vilani

    Hello,

I am making a documentary about sustainability in London and would love to interview the organiser of this market.

    Please contact me.

    Thank you

    Thanks for your interest, Patricia.

I posted this to support the trader-community group which has been campaigning to save the market, as they don't seem to use the SH site themselves.

I don't know who's the organiser of the market and am unsure what you mean by this - the traders' leader or the Council market manager, for instance. (There may be a Council market manager for the Waste, as there seems to be for other Hackney markets.)

If you want to contact the organiser of the campaign to save the market, I suggest you contact them via their Facebook page, named simply "Kingsland Waste".

The Council will apparently deny closing the market but, since they've apparently refused to issue any new trading licences for it and terminated all the temporary licences, that leaves only two permanent licence-holders able to trade there after tomorrow. The chances of the market's surviving with only two active traders able to trade there seem horribly slim. Others are already arranging to take their trade elsewhere, so retrieving the position is also doubtful.

    I hope this is helpful.
