If you support the aims of the Abney Park Trust, please think about joining the trustee team

We are looking for about 10 trustees for the next year to help the Trust fulfil its aims.

You would need to:

  • be able to devote on average 4 hours a week to the Trust
  • be happy to act as part of a team with shared aims
  • feel confident you can lead on overseeing and improving an area of the Trust's activity.

We're particularly interested in people with interest and/or expertise in the following:

  • health and safety
  • HR
  • organisational management
  • community outreach
  • landscape management
  • environmental/conservation management
  • historic buildings management
  • events management
  • volunteer management
  • IT management

We also need people to take an active role in our negotiations with the London Borough of Hackney and other prospective partners over the next year.

You do not need to be an expert because we can often call on the help of pro bono professionals or voluntary advisers. But you do need to be willing to learn enough to ask the right questions and decide what to do with the advice.

The aims of the Trust for the next year are:

  • to protect and promote Abney Park as a Local Nature Reserve, listed heritage site, place of remembrance and a free and open green space for current and future generations
  • provide opportunities and facilities for education, recreation and tranquillity
  • promote a management style that balances the needs of various aspects of Abney Park: heritage, nature, remembrance, recreation and education
  • make the governance of Abney as open as possible
  • encouraging and facilitating input from local people and groups.

If you are interested in taking this further, please email info@abneypark.org with 'potential Trustee' in the subject line, explaining why you're interested in becoming an Abney Park trustee, briefly outlining any relevant experience, and the skills and qualities you can bring to the board.

We'll then arrange a mutually convenient time for a meeting where we can explain more about the role and the process and learn more about each other.

We look forward to hearing from you.
