Event Description

In light of the 20th anniversary of Refugee Week 2018, Second Home has collaborated with Help Refugees to create a programme of events celebrating creative and positive responses to the issues surrounding mass migration.

Monday 18 June, 12:45 - Libreria Language Labs (Libreria)

A weekly initiative run in collaboration with ELATT helping refugees and migrants improve their English & employability skills through conversation and writing workshops. Join us for a conversation class where you can help our students perfect their spoken English. Afterwards there will be a special leather wallet making workshop with TimePeace App and Juta Shoes. Very limited spaces available - RSVP.

Monday 18 June, 7pm – Human Flow Screening (Holland Park)

An exclusive screening of Ai WeiWei’s heartbreaking exploration into the global refugee crisis. Filmed in 23 countries over the course of a year, Human Flow follows a chain of urgent human stories that stretch across the globe.

Wednesday 20 June, 7pm - Creative & Positive Responses to the Refugee Crisis (Holland Park)

A panel discussion celebrating the artists, performers and charity groups who have responded with positivity and creativity to the heart-breaking realities of the Refugee crisis and who continue to spread messages of love, unity and generosity in a time of mass migration, fear and unsettlement.

Panelists include:

  • Claire Wilson - Founder of Welcome Kitchen & Cinema
  • Rebecca Briley - Team leader of the Flying Seagull's Channel Your Energy project.
  • Baraa Halabieh - Associate Producer of Borderline - a piece of satirical theatre devised and performed by an ensemble of European and refugee artists in response to their experiences of the Calais Jungle.

18 - 22 June - Imad's Syrian Kitchen Takeover (Holland Park)

-over our beautiful courtyard cafe for Refugee week. He’ll be serving a different Syrian specialties everyday.

Choose Love Mural

For Refugee Week 2018, we've been working on a special creative collision with members Help Refugees and Spacehive to commission a mural on Hanbury Street opposite Second Home.
