Event Description

What is emerging in Japan 4 years on from the tsunami and nuclear disaster? How are Transition Towns responding? What can we learn from environmental grassroots activism in Japan and local level responses to the disaster?

Last year Ros Bedlow fulfilled her dream to travel overland to Japan, where she lived for 10 years during the 80s and 90s. She then spent two months travelling, during which she visited 4 Transition Towns and saw many aspects of permaculture in practice. From the caldera of a volcano to a curiously Camden-like part of Tokyo, the settings and the people were of course very different. But apart from a commitment to Transition, there was a recurring theme mentioned over and over:  3.11, the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster of 11th March 2011.

Debbie Warrener also has strong connections with Japan where she previously lived for over three years. She was invited back there lead a number of ecopsychology ‘inner Transition’ workshops and a retreat (in Japanese!) in November last year. She took the opportunity to also participate in a ‘Learning Journey’ to the areas affected by the tsunami and nuclear disaster to bear witness and hear the stories of what is emerging.

All night bar and delicious locally sourced vegetarian food celebrating local, wild and seasonal produce £5 a plate.

Doors open at 6:45. £4 (£2 concessions) on the door.
